I would like you to note
something extremely important,
if not the most important thing,
when it comes to self defence-Krav Maga.
Cases of people being sentenced
to serve time in prison for apparent
acts of self defence by application of
"unreasonable force" are not that
uncommon these days.
It is CRUCIAL in Krav Maga to realize that just
because you have the skills to
protect yourself and your close
ones, you should NEVER lose
your head and always think of
the consequences.
It is usually not too hard to tell
if you are overstepping the line.
While crippling someone for life
might seem a good idea at that
particular moment, the legal
consequences can leave a SEVERE
impact on the rest of your life.
From country to country and
from state to state criminal laws
regarding boundaries of self
defence may vary. However,
usually it is up for the judge and
jury to decide if the case can be
regarded as application of
unreasonable force.
Self defence is usually justified
as long as reasonable force has
been applied. But what is
"reasonable force" exactly?
A good rule of thumb to go by
is ask yourself - are you stepping
over the board? If the answer is
yes, then you PROBABLY are and
should reconsider.
Here are some real life examples
of application of unreasonable force:
1) A person kicking a lying and immobile
opponent for "safe measure".
2) Chasing after a fleeing opponent
To land a final blow on the back
of the head.
3) Stabbing someone with a knife,
because he walked up in a
threatening manner.
Several aspects come into play
when evaluating if UNREASONABLE
force was applied. Some of these
aspects are:
1) Age and strength difference;
2) Choice of weapons;
3) The situation and context;
4) If there was any provocation;
5) Gender.
So defend yourself by all means (with Krav Maga skills)
but DON'T over step the line...O.K?
