What is the diference between Krav Maga and other Martial Arts?
If you are a Taekwondo practitioner then primarily
kicking is your goal. Your SPP training would be
kicking form, kicking pads, kicking shields and
sparring...
Stretching would also play an integral part of your
SPP. Running and plyometric maybe your GPP training.
Grappling will probably NOT feature in your quest
to be a better kicker.
A boxer certainly runs and does press-ups but he
is going to do NEITHER of these things in the ring,
so his SPP training is punching, footwork, shadow
sparring and rope jumping.
Being able to bang out 50 push ups is admirable but
it WON'T improve boxing skill. It is a GPP training
method to help strength and endurance.
If a boxer had NEVER done a push up would it affect
them? Probably not.
What about Krav Maga?
As they say if you want to learn to swim get in the
water.
If you are training for a grading then whatever is
required on your belt syllabus becomes your SPP
training. Fitness will MAINLY become GPP training
unless there is a specific weakness that will
affect your grading chances.
When it comes to MMA you may feel a fighter has
the hardest job, simply because he has to learn
to punch, kick, knee, elbow, wrestle, ground and
pound, takedown and apply submissions.
Also he must have PHENOMENAL conditioning. How
do you prioritise?
Well for most MMA fighters they all have a
preferred range, not many are total all-rounders
unless you are GSP or maybe B.J.Penn.
They will prioritise their strengths first. So
if they PREFER stand up fighting that's what they
will work on. Their SPP becomes strike work,
footwork, and takedown defence.
Wrestling and groundwork are of cause addressed but
they are not first on the list.
But in Krav Maga you got all of this skills together in" all in one"inclusive fighting skills !
